Municipal and Township Law Services
Land Use, Planning, Regulation, and Zoning
We work closely with our clients, both municipalities and individuals, to provide counsel on an assortment of zoning and land use matters from site acquisition and planning, zoning, and subdivision regulation to water quality and water resources. Our experience ranges in representing both private and public clients on all sizes of projects.
Employment
Labor and employment laws vary from local, state, and federal levels making it often confusing for employees to identify correct steps to take should they feel mistreated. Our attorneys have the expertise to challenge employers to help you get the results you feel you deserve. From discrimination laws and safety standards to wage and hour violations and negotiating various agreements, we can help you take a stand for what’s right.
Construction
Our attorneys represent various clients in both the commercial and residential construction markets, from homeowner associations and general contractors to architects and engineers. Whether it’s for individual project implementation matters or a mechanic’s lien and product liability claims, CJB Law has experience and knowledge in an assortment of law areas covering construction.
Eminent Domain
Commonly referred to as condemnation, eminent domain is the power of local, state, or federal government agencies to take private property from an owner for public use by paying the owner compensation. While eminent domain is commonly used for properties that will benefit the public, it often doesn’t help the private owner. If you’ve been threatened with eminent domain, our attorneys are passionate about effectively defending your private land ownership rights.
Open Meetings
The public has a right to attend, observe, and review materials from government meetings if open to the public. Many states have an open meetings law that allows the public to have complete access to governmental bodies’ meetings, if applicable. These laws allow individuals to stay fully informed, detect improper influences, and present their own views to government officials.
Contracting and Bidding
Government and private sector clients that need guidance on the use of the bid-spec process, the design-build process, guaranteed savings contract process, or public equipment procurement process can turn to CJB Law. Our attorneys are well-rounded and knowledgeable in the complex public bidding and procurement regulations industry.
Improvement Projects
Hiring contractors for home improvement or remodeling is a big step and can turn into a disaster quickly. Contractors are required to abide by the home improvement statute to prevent the unfair treatment of the homeowner. Whether your contractor has abandoned your project, you’re experiencing unjustified delays in the work performed, or have been overbilled; our attorneys may be able to assist you in recovering money from your contractor for your unfair treatment.
Government Data Practices Act
Our attorneys are available to answer any questions regarding a state’s Government Data Practices Act. This state law manages how government data is controlled, whether through the collection, creation, maintenance, use, or dissemination. If you feel you should have access to certain content or that data is being held incorrectly, our attorneys can provide clarity and answer any questions.
Economic Development
The attorneys at CJB Law efficiently prepare incentive estimates, negotiate with government representatives, and draft incentive agreements to memorialize negotiations. We advocate for our clients and their incentive packages at local approval meetings and by meeting with local and state commissions, agencies, and development directors.
Development Agreements
Local municipalities such as a city or county establish voluntary contracts called development agreements with property owners whose land is located within the city or county limits. This agreement contains the obligations of both parties and lays out the various standards and conditions. Obtaining approval for your new development can be time-consuming and challenging, but our attorneys have the experience to guide you efficiently.
