A series of drug investigations has led to the arrests of almost 30 Minnesota residents for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine and opioids. The arrests were announced by the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office on April 2.
According to authorities, the purpose of the operation was to identify individuals suspected of dealing meth and prescription drugs in the Hubbard County area. Over the course of several investigations, most of which were conducted during the past six months, law enforcement agents arrested 29 defendants. They also seized large quantities of meth, opiates, hash oil, marijuana, firearms and drug profits.
The defendants, who range in age from 26 to 69, are accused of committing various felony drug crimes. Many of them have prior criminal records, including a 49-year-old man who was previously convicted of dealing meth in 2011 and 2013. His wife was also arrested and also has a previous conviction for meth possession. The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the U.S. Border Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and various state and local law enforcement agencies.
Individuals who have been handed drug charges could face harsh consequences in Minnesota, including incarceration and fines. However, every defendant has the right to retain a criminal defense attorney and mount a vigorous defense against such charges. An attorney could help protect a defendant’s rights throughout the legal process, including during police questioning. Counsel could also scrutinize the evidence for details that cast doubt on the prosecution’s case. In some situations, it may be possible to get the charges completely dismissed. In others, the charges could be significantly reduced through a plea deal.
